Canadian Provinces

On this page you will find an introduction to the four provinces offered in our high school programme. Get an insight into what Canadian life is like and decide which province is the one for you.

British Columbia

British Columbia (BC) is known for its dreamy landscape: coast, fjords, the Rocky Mountains, many rivers and forests, as well as several islands. This diverse landscape is ideal for both winter and water sports, popular among locals and tourists alike. British Columbia offers countless fun activities for you to partake in, from riding the world-record Peak 2 Peak Gondola between the peaks of the Whistler and Blackcomb, a visit to Hot Springs Cove via seaplane, the world's longest simulated flight (FlyOver Canada), or the Whistler Superfly ziplines. Animal lovers are also at home in Canada, with whale watching and visits to Canada's amazing national parks being a must. BC features an incredibly diverse fauna: beavers, reindeer, moose, bison, wapitis, wolves, grizzly bears, cougars, orcas and the region-only Kermode bears, also known as ghost bears. Culture lovers mustn't miss traditional festivals such as the "Nanaimo Marine Festival", the "Bulkley Valley Exhibition" and the "Kamloopa Pow Wow".

Manitoba

Manitoba is the perfect province for sports and nature enthusiasts. The region is characterised by gorgeous national parks, forests, rivers, and beaches. For a once in a lifetime opportunity, take part in the Great White Bears Tour and have the chance to meet some majestic polar bears. If you are lucky you might even be able to spot seals, beluga whales, black bears, moose, bobcats and many more animals on your adventure tours. Other leisure spots in Manitoba that you shouldn't miss are the province's golf courses, the lake district of Nopiming Provincial Park, and The Forks' 7.5 km long skating course. Markets, historical sites, and traditional festivals are a must during your time in Manitoba, especially the"Islendingadagurinn" and the "Northern Manitoba Trappers' Festival". And don't forget about the Northern Lights, a spectacle which can be marveled from high up.

Ontario

Ontario is known world-wide for its beaches, national parks, forested lowlands, and bodies of water. There are about 250,000 lakes and rivers on which canoe and camping tours take place, a real Canadian experience! Ontario's fauna is rich and varied, but the most spectacular sight is the migration of the Monarch butterfly, with thousands of them moving from Ontario to Mexico every year. A stop worth seeing during your stay is Toronto, the most populous city in Canada. There you can visit the Ripley's Aquarium, the Hockey Hall of Fame, and the Toronto Island Park. A real treat for adrenaline junkies is Canada's Wonderland, which has the highest and fastest roller coaster in the whole country and an amazing water park. A trip to Ontario is not complete without a visit to Niagara Falls, a sight that will stay with you for the rest of your life. Also worth experiencing is the "Maple Syrup Festival", a truly Canadian treasure.

Québec

Québec is the largest province in Canada and the only multilingual one (English and French). The landscape is characterized by beaches, forests, and national parks inhabited by wolves, black bears, beluga whales and twelve other species of whales. Québec's diverse flora and fauna makes it a true outdoor paradise. Highly recommended activities are whale watching, camping, kayaking and canoeing, dog sledding, snowshoeing, and ice fishing. When in Québec make sure not to miss a visit to the land of the Atikamekw to learn about the indigenous culture as well as the "Festival d'Été de Québec" and the "Maple Syrup Festival".
